About UsBaby Bluebird was started by busy working mum, who was frustrated by the lack of information and practical, useful baby goods available in her home town of Leigh-on-Sea. Leigh is full of independent shops, and a quality baby shop is a welcome addition to the mix of children's clothes, gifts, toys and baby & child toiletries on offer in this traditional, independent, shopping area.
Here you'll find a wide choice of practical and affordable products. We listen to our customers, your opinions give a huge input to our product range. Parents make the best product testers! In our shop we also have free information for parents and carers on subjects including antenatal classes, AquaBabies, BabySensory, JoJingles and after school clubs, such as Kumon. Don't forget, you can visit us at 16 Rectory Grove, Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. Our shop opening hours through July are:
Monday 10am to 5pm Tuesday 10am to 6pm Wednesday 10am to 5pm Thursday 10am to 6pm Friday 10am to 5pm Saturday 10am to 6pm Sunday 1pm to 4pm
If you need to shop outside of these hours contact us directly and we'll do our best to help.
More about the Person Behind the Bluebird.... ....Run by a busy working Mum, with a passion for what is right and a City career behind her, the driving philosophy behind BabyBluebird is to provide useful information alongside practical, quality products, for babies and small children. Parents are so busy, so to help you we open until late by appointment; just call to book anytime.
Parents and parents-to-be need information. You need to be able to discuss products. You need time to think. We will do all we can to help you through this wonderful, but confusing and sometimes stressful, time.
A place like BabyBluebird would have been a big help to us before and after the birth of our two wonderful little rascals, now bigger rascals of 12 and 10 years old. If we knew, when our boys were born, what we know now we would have done many things differently. For instance, we would not have carried our sons in a car seat for long periods of time, lifting the seat in and out of the car instead of transferring them to their pram. This was actually dangerous! but it was normal practice at the time.
Also, with hindsight, we would have put more thought into buying a good pram, one that had the option to face our babies towards us. The most important thing for a baby to see is their carer's face, they're really not interested in shop windows, or scenery, in the early days. Fashions change, and thankfully a lot of current trends seem to be based on ideas that make a lot of sense.
When we were expecting our children I worked full time, commuting to London. We weren't used to with life with a baby, didn't know where to start. So we went off to Lakeside for an evening to gather the 'basics'. The basic products were available and the shops were open late but, heavily pregnant, I found the experience exhausting.
When our son appeared on the scene we discovered the bare, secluded, feeding / changing rooms of large baby stores. We also discovered how excluded Dads can be. Second time around, with a toddler to look after, and still with my London career I had no time to shop for our lovely new baby at all.
Thing is, shopping for your baby can be very different. You can learn so much whilst you shop, especially if you find a well informed, friendly, retailer. If there had been a well stocked local nursery shop that we could have visited 'out of hours' (ie after 5pm!), or even on-line, with well informed staff on hand, we'd have jumped at the chance to visit. This would have been much nicer, we would have learned so much and saved a huge amount of time, effort and money in the long run. Shopping shouldn't have to be a chore - even when your feet are aching!
At BabyBluebird we stock only products that are top of the range for safety and reliability. We have a whole section dedicated to safety including, for instance, products that help to position seat belts for maximum comfort and safety for both Mums-to-be and their baby. We have lots of information about what's on locally, and plan to hold talks and demonstrations, including car seat safety, safety at home and early years education, in the future.
